The Knoydart peninsula is one of the most remote areas of mainland UK. Even though Loch Nevis is a very sheltered sea loch it can still throw up the water a bit. But the rewards of stunning landscape and towering mountains is a good pay-off. The tour is usually 3 days of sea kayaking and 2 days of hillwalking. All depending on the weather and wind of course.

This trip is for intermediate paddlers and hillwalkers. Some sea kayaking experience is certainly of benefit.

Please contact us if you can’t find the right tour or dates.

Tour Details

Knoydart is one of the most remote and hardest to reach areas in the Highlands of Scotland. However, by sea kayak, it is a more pleasant way of discovering the magnificent hills of Knoydart.

This trip starts in Mallaig and the sea kayaking journey will lead us to the end of Loch Nevis. Once there the hills in the area will be explored.

This is a really special trip if you are into hillwalking and sea kayaking. The trip will take you to a remote bothy in Knoydart called Sourlies. We will be camping there. There is some great wildlife in the area. You may even come across 2 friendly deer and the fattest mouse in Scotland… Gordon. There is also a small seal colony in Loch Nevis.

Camping

On our 5-day sea kayaking journey, we will always go wild camping at Sourlies Bothy and one or 2 nights at the Knoydart community campsite in Inverie.

What to Expect

Knoydart is at the west coast of Scotland. Most of the time the weather is good for the area but it can sometimes be wet and windy. Be prepared for a time with some rain and even the possibility that we have to take a ferry to Inverie.

The rewards are worth the risk though. The further you paddle into Loch Nevis the more stunning is the scenery and you have a good chance to see some great wildlife in sheltered areas.

Kayaking out to Inverie. We can also go for a smaller walk if the time allows. In what order depends on the weather forecast or how everyone feels.
We can spend the last evening at “The Table” a small outdoor community pub. Bring your own beer is the standard rule. You can buy some in the community shop.
