The South Skye Sea Kayak Tour will take you to areas of natural beauty and there are an exeptional amount of sea wildlife to see. The Isle of Skye is an amazing place to explore and has many stunning gems along its coast. To the north you have large sea cliffs growing straight out of the sea and in the south of the island are some of the most remarkable mountains of the UK. In the more sheltered places, you can find wildlife like otters, seals, porpoises and if you’re lucky even dolphins and basking sharks.

A 5-day sea kayaking tour is ideal for discovering those astonishing places and the ability to wild camp give the group greater flexibility.

Please contact us if you can’t find the right tour or dates.

Tour Details

The 5 day sea kayaking Skye trip is an adventurous sea kayaking journey we offer. This tour is for paddlers with some experience, who like to explore far-flung areas in Scotland. The tour will take you along the scenic coastline of Skye. On all sea kayaking tours, you will be able to explore some of the most remote areas in the country. We also provide you with a more and better quality kit than everyone else out there. The wildlife around the Isle of Skye is arguably the most astonishing in Europe. The island is fairly sheltered, as a result, you may spot porpoises, dolphins, otters, sea eagles or even pine martens. Because of the sheltered locations, you should also see an abundance of harbour seals in the area. Furthermore, the Isle of Skye has some of the most beautiful coastlines and sea cliffs in Scotland.

Sea Kayaking Skye

There are generally 3 different tours around Skye we offer. One is taking the group from Kyleakin up the mainland coast to Applecross, then across to the north of Raasay and then along the east coast of Skye back to Kyleakin. The other tour would start at Elgol. The group will then explore the area of Loch Scavaig and then paddle to Sleat, up the coast to Kylerea and then to Kyleakin. The third option is a tour in the north, starting in Portree and paddling around Trotternish. The choice of the tour depends on the weather and experience of the group.

The food we provide is mostly fresh because we like to make sure that every aspect of the sea kayaking tour is enjoyable. With a good weather forecast, we also offer a barbecue. We also make cappuccino, americano or tea in the mornings. There is still plenty to see on the final day and the scenery might change on the way. The sea kayaking Skye trip should be finished by mid-afternoon.

Camping

On our 5-day sea kayaking journey, we will always go wild camping somewhere along the coast in or near the Isle of Skye. On request, we may try to aim for a campsite one day.

Itinerary

We will meet up at 9:00 am in Kyleakin. After an introduction, we will consider all options and drive to the starting point if necessary. In the morning we will pack all the kayaks and then set off for our first stage of the trip.

Day 2-4Skye

These days are according to weather conditions and the speed we can paddle in a group. We can stop any place we like for a wild camp and if the conditions allow a campfire.

Day 5Skye

Make that a shorter day to wind down and get back to the cars.

What to Expect

A 5 day trip is  a bit more demanding that a one or 2 day trip. Experienced groups could expect to do over 100km in those 5 days and still have a pretty chilled out time. This is ideal for people who enjoy the great outdoors regularly and would like to see the Scottish Highlands from a different perspective.

Andreas provides a very good service with top quality kayaks and camping kit. High winds prevented planned excursion but relocated to Plockton for three days kayaking and two nights camping. Memorable visit to beautiful area of highlands even though lots of rain and not much sun! He is an experienced instructor with safety as number one priority, easy to get along with and a very efficient provider of hot meals!

This trip went ahead despite me being the only customer. The sea was calm and the wind was light helping us to make excellent progress on our journey from Elgol to Kyleakin. So much so that we arrived a day earlier than planned and carried on to Plockton for our final night. Excellent scenery and superb views of wildlife including close encounters with otter and basking shark made this an unforgettable trip. Thanks Andreas!
