Lochaber (/lɒxˈɑːbər/) (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Abar) is an area in the west of the Scottish Highlands. Historically it referred to the area between Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven, around the town of Fort William.
Fort William is the main town of Lochaber and is at the foot of the highest peak of Scotland, Ben Nevis. With its 1345 metres, it is the most popular destination for hillwalking in Scotland.
In addition to the area around Fort William, you will also find many remote areas such as Knoydart. The Knoydart peninsula is one of the most remote areas in the mainland of the UK and some areas are easiest accessed by water.
