Ben Nevis is with 1345m the highest peak in the UK. The weather on this mountain can be testing for the most experienced mountaineers and in winter it has the added challenge of shorter days and the risk of avalanches. However, it is a real adventure and why not take your time climbing it and spend a night on Ben Nevis. This 2 day trip to Ben Nevis is a unique opportunity to scale Scotland’s highest mountain and spend a night on it.

Tour Details

This is something very unique and only Unexplored Scotland offers a night in the winter on top of Ben Nevis. This is a real adventure since the conditions in the winter can be a bit hairy at times and you will also have the summit to ourselves and don’t need to share the moment with a lot of people. We also provide 4 season tents, which will stand up to almost anything and inflatable sleeping mats. Since there is very little daylight available it makes perfect sense you just take your time on the ascent and not be rushed to get back down before it gets dark.

Allt a’Mhuilinn and the Pony Track is the easiest approach to the summit. If the conditions permit an ascent via Coire Leiss is also possible. The path could be covered by fresh snow at any time of the winter. Finding the way up is still pretty straightforward. Starting at the North face car park you will walk up to the C.I.C. Hut and view the impressive Nevis North Face. Then over to the Pony track and up to the summit.

We offer group discounts for groups of 3 and over. Just click on book now at the date you want to book, increase the number of participants in the basket and update to see how much you can save.

What to Expect

This trip can be tough for most people. The rucksacks tend to be between 14 and 16kg and the conditions may be challenging too. This should be only considered by people who are fairly fit and can walk all day uphill with a heavy sack.

Itinerary

Day 1Fort William, Scotland

We meet at the North face car park in Torlundy (near Fort William) at 9:00am. We set off after packing the equipment for the expedition. With good weather conditions we should reach the summit just before it gets dark and set up the tents.

Day 2Ben Nevis, Scotland

Depending on whether we reached the summit on the first day we will either continue walking up or pack our kit and walk down the mountain. We should be back at the car park at mid afternoon at the latest.

Camping on the summit of Ben Nevis was an absolute amazing experience. To be there when everyone else has already turned around and have the sunset and sunrise only for you was an blissful experience. I don’t know how it would be ion bad weather, since I got lucky and experienced clear skies (during the night, temperature have reached -5º, but the equipment was good).
Also, Andreas is really a nice guy, a very helpful and easygoing person. Recommended!
