The cairngorms is a large area of mountainous land in the Eastern part of the geographical Highlands. Most of the hills are higher than the average Munros and consists of large plateaus with steep cliffs on all sides, for example, the Cairngorm plateau. The flora in the mountains is unique in Western Europe as it resembles mostly Arctic plants.
The cairngorms are also ideal for winter mountaineering. The location and height of the hills guarantees winter conditions. The terrain and conditions can also be very challenging.
