The 2 Day Sea Kayak Arisaig trip will take you around the the archepilago in the area and a little beyond if the weather allows. Arisaig is often referred to as the Caribbean of Scotland. This is mostly due to the white beaches of the small islands rather than the weather. This is a 2-day sea kayaking trip with wild camping and we typically try to do the sea kayaking trip in the Arisaig area. There are however many great alternatives in the area if the weather or sea condition won’t allow us to explore the Arisaig archipelago.

Please contact us if you can’t find the right tour or dates.

Tour Details

Sea Kayaking Arisaig

The islands of Arisaig are some of the most beautiful islands to paddle around. The local seal colonies are very much used to sea kayakers and are as curious about us as we are about them and you get great views of Eigg and Rum.

We will paddle at the Arisaig islands and discover the sandy beaches and wildlife in the area. On the second day, we will paddle somewhere along the coast of Mallaig or to the south at Glenuig. It all depends on the weather and the paddling experience of the group.

The tour is a 2 day trip with wild camping.

Arisaig

The Arisaig archipelago is a cluster of small islands south of Mallaig with mostly sandy beaches. The islands can be reached by walking across some of the beaches on spring tides at low water. However, you won’t have much time to get back before the water cuts you off. They are easily reached by sea kayak though. The sheltered location also makes it a good location, when the wind picks up a little. You have good chances to see seals and you might even spot an otter. The views to the islands of Skye, Eigg and Rum are uninterrupted and magnificent on clear days. This is one of the best places in Scotland for sea kayaking.

Mallaig

There are some amazing beaches south of Mallaig with a large inlet to Morar. The Films Rob Roy and Local Hero had scenes shot in the area. The area has some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland with great views of the small isles and the Isle of Skye. Alternatively, the trip could also lead us to Inverie, which is one of the most remote villages in mainland UK and can only be reached on foot or across the water.

Glenuig

The area around Glenuig has a great mix of small sea cliffs and beaches. There is also a bothy in the area that has some rare Viking remains at the beach. But you need to know what to look for to see them. This area is a bit more exposed and should only be paddled on good days.

Loch Moidart

The loch is one of the most sheltered places in the area. It also changes a lot with the tides and you can see how some land disappears at high water and some beaches get revealed at low water. In between, you get occasionally some fast currents but this won’t be any problem for the group. We could also have a closer look at Castle Tiuram with can be accessed from the water at any time (unlike if you walk to the castle).
